“Sing to the lord a new song; sing to the lord all the earth.” – Psalm 95

Music has always played an important part in the worship of God’s people, as praise and adoration can be beautifully expressed in a song. The mission of the choir is to “aid in the beauty of worship. Music is an evangelism tool and is a vital part of the tradition of the Episcopal Church”.

Singing in a church choir gives one the opportunity to experience singing the messages of Christ’s redemptive work in an effective way, and in doing so moves others to desire this source of inner joy.

Choral anthems and hymns, sung from the 1982 hymnal, reflect the lectionary of the day and are drawn from a repertoire of a variety of periods and styles. All music at St. Barnabas’ is accompanied by a beautiful pipe organ.

St. Barnabas’ has a rich tradition of fine liturgy, grounded in the beauty and spiritual depth of the Book of Common Prayer of the Episcopal Church and enriched by music drawn from the best of many cultures.

There are many opportunities for learning and making friends, and no specific requirements, to joining the music ministry at St. Barnabas’.

The Chancel Choir sings at the 10:30 a.m. service each Sunday and presents additional music during Lent, Advent, and Christmas. Rehearsal is Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

“Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre and the sound of melody, with trumpets and the sound of the horn. Make a joyful noise before the Lord our God.” – Psalm 98
